PonyProg and low voltage SPI flash EEPROM

Hello everyone, Is it possible to adapt to the PonyProg SPI Flash EEPROM low voltate (3.3 V)!? If possible please in this topic describe how you go about it.

I'm writing about this because I have a few to program SPI Flash eeprom:
PM25LD020
Winbond W25X020
PM25LV010
All of these IC are low voltage(3,3V) and therefore created this topic.

Btw. From what I can see, using this scheme: http://www.lancos.com/e2p/siprog_base.png
you will need to change the regulator to 3.3 V or possibly from the present to make switchable 5V / 3,3 V, but what's next!?

Hello Peter_020,

I think it is possible, but there are few things need to be changed. You need lower the supply voltage to 3.3V and you must also lower the voltage levels on SCK and MOSI lines (from SI Prog base board) to that level. And finally is needed increasing of the voltage level on the MISO line (return to the SI Prog base board) to 5V. I have modified the schematic of the "SPI eeprom adapter" and the file is attached. Pinout is identical with original SI Prog base board. I don't have these SPI eeproms, so I can not verify functionality of the circuit.

On the other side, maybe the eeproms PM25LV010, PM25LD020 or Winbond W25X020 have another instruction set and status register format as the PonyProg2000 is "expecting" and therefore it would be not possible to communicate with them, even thought the circuit is OK. But this is only my speculation.

Best regards

Hello Peter_020,

I have compared the datasheets from AT25xxx and W25X020 + PM25LD020 and there is a major difference in device memory addresing so PonyProg2000 is actualy NOT compatible to program the eeproms of the model range W25X020 or PM25LD020.

Best regards
